The interactive digital map locates all of the verified interracial violence that occurred during the Red Summer including race riots, lynchings, forced expulsions, the destruction of Black property, and similar attacks against Black Americans. Every marker on the map can be clicked on for more information about the violence that occurred there.
*Note: Markers are approximate locations. New incidents are added periodically as documentation is confirmed.
How to use the map: Using the legends dropdown along the top of the digital map, you can sort Red Summer events by size, type, region, motivating causes and other categories to compare the events. Use the ‘Hide/Show All’ option in the legend box between searches to clear the map and only see the category you are selecting.
